SILIGURI: Mohammedan Sporting Club juniors settled for 4th place in the Oorja 2017 – CAPFs U-19 Football Talent Hunt Tournament, after going down 7-8 on penalties against Bani Mandir Railway High School in the 3rd Place Play-Off match at Dronacharya Football Stadium in Siliguri on Wednesday.
India is hosting FIFA U-17 World Cup later this year, and the Prime Minister of India Sri Narendra Modi has called for the support of not only children, but also parents to encourage boys and girls to play football and develop both skill and fitness.
In view of the appeal of the Prime Minister, the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) have been tasked to conduct Oorja 2017. CAPFs jointly organizing the tournament under the aegis of All India Police Sports Control Board all over the country from 1st to 15th May 2017. North Bengal Frontier BSF is tasked to conduct the tournament in West Bengal.
A total number of eight teams participated in the male’s competition held at Siliguri’s Kachenjunga Stadium and Dronacharya Football Stadium. Mohammedan SC were pooled in the Group B alongside B.M. Railway High School, Keshab Uma Charitable Trust and Calcutta Cricket and Football Club.
Mohammedan SC began their campaign with a 1-0 win over B.M. Railway High School before playing out a goalless draw with CCFC, however colts registered a resounding 3-0 victory over K.U. Charitable Trust to book their place in the semi-finals, where they lost 2-4 against Diamond Harbour Football Academy, who would take on Mohun Bagan Sail Academy (MBSFA) in the final tomorrow.
